Swim Lessons, Session 5

Swimming lessons are offered for children ages 5 and older. A beach sticker is required for all waterfront activities.

General Information

• Children also attending camp will be brought to their lessons at the appropriate time.
• The half-hour lessons are held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday each week and are $25 per session.
• A beach sticker is required for all waterfront activities.
• Please choose a swim level.
• Children’s ability will be reviewed on the first day of lessons and they will be moved appropriately.
• Most children remain in the same level over the course of the summer.
• Please choose a level, and a time.

Level Descriptions
Level 1 Water Exploration
Beginners will learn to feel comfortable in the water and enjoy water safety. Elementary aquatic skills are taught.
Level 2 Primary Skills
Fundamental skills. Students learn to float without support and recover to the vertical position. True locomotion skills begin to emerge and we will focus on safety awareness.
Level 3 Stroke Readiness
Continue to practice skills. Swimmers learn to coordinate the front and back crawl and are introduced to the elementary backstroke and treading water. They learn rules of safe diving and begin to learn to dive from the dock.
Level 4 Stroke Development
Develop confidence in strokes previously learned, increase endurance by swimming familiar strokes for greater distances than in prior levels. The breaststroke and sidestroke will be introduced.
Level 5 Stroke Refinement
Coordination and refinement of key strokes. The butterfly, open turns, and the feet first standing dive are all introduced. Swimmers learn to perform the front and back crawl for increased distances and to perform the sidestroke and breaststroke.
Level 6 Skill Proficiency
Develop considerable endurance, learn different turns and surface dives, and recognize and assist in emergency situations

Private Swim Lessons

• Interested persons should see Recreation Director Dennis Minor.
• Lessons will be conducted during normal waterfront operational hours when lifeguards are on duty.
• Fee: $50/half hour lesson
